The Human Rights Court has rejected a motion submitted by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
His request was aimed at securing approval to revise his writ and to access certain documents, following his designation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as a wanted fugitive and the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice.
Ken Ofori-Atta listed on INTERPOL’s Red Notice alert system
Providing an update on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the OSP revealed that the court threw out Ofori-Atta’s application after determining that the materials he sought were irrelevant.
Additionally, the Human Rights Court directed him to pay GH¢5,000, describing the application as a misuse of the court’s time.
According to the OSP:
“The Human Rights Court this morning struck out an application by Kenneth Ofori-Atta requesting leave to modify his writ and to obtain discovery. This is one of several cases he has initiated to contest his classification as a wanted individual and the warrant underpinning that designation.
The Court ruled that the documents requested were superfluous and therefore imposed costs of GHS 5,000on the applicant for squandering the Court’s time.”
They added that the main ruling on the request to amend the original writ has been postponed to December 12, 2025.
In June 2025, Ofori-Atta was officially entered into INTERPOL’s Red Notice system after the OSP declared him a fleeing suspect.
The notice, issued on June 6, 2025, describes him as a 65-year-old Ghanaian, born in Accra on November 7, 1959, standing 1.7 metres tall, with dark eyes and hair, and fluent in Twi and English.
INTERPOL states that he is wanted for “Using Public Office for Profit.” The OSP is seeking global assistance to locate and provisionally detain him pending extradition or voluntary return, as he is believed to be in the United States receiving medical care.
The former minister is also facing multiple corruption-related charges, together with seven other individuals, in the SML scandal currently being prosecuted by the OSP.
These charges relate to the revenue assurance contract with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) as well as issues surrounding the National Cathedral project.
