Finance Minister Slams Bantama MP for Opposing Accra-Kumasi Expressway

The Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has criticized Bantama MP Francis Asenso-Boakye for opposing the government’s proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Dr. Ato Forson revealed that the Bantama legislator labeled the project as a misuse of national resources.

He expressed astonishment at the MP’s stance, noting that the expressway would directly benefit his own constituency.

“Mr. Speaker, regarding the Accra-Kumasi Expressway, allow me to clarify some misconceptions. The Honourable Asenso-Boakye suggested that the project is wasteful and implied that the opposition opposes the dualization. This claim is inaccurate,” Dr. Ato Forson stated.

The Finance Minister continued:

“I was surprised to hear a fellow MP, particularly from Kumasi, describe the expressway as wasteful. This road will directly serve his constituency, making such a stance puzzling,” he added.

Dr. Ato Forson further disclosed that the Bantama MP had even written to President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to halt the project.

“It is remarkable that the MP advised the President against proceeding. The Accra-Kumasi road is more than just infrastructure—it is a gateway to national development. For an MP from the area to call it wasteful and request its cancellation is completely indefensible,” Dr. Ato Forson concluded.

The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is a key infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting connectivity, facilitating trade, and opening up communities along the corridor. According to Dr. Ato Forson, halting the project would deprive residents and businesses of its many benefits.
