Renowned lawyer Martin Kpebu has accused Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng of bribery and interfering in corruption investigations involving top government officials, including Charles Adu Boahen and Dr Kingsley Agyemang.
Renowned private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has launched fresh and explosive corruption allegations against Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
According to a report by citinewsroom.com, Kpebu—who has consistently criticised the Special Prosecutor over his handling of the case involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta—claimed that Agyebeng has been involved in bribery and improper conduct in the discharge of his duties.
Kpebu alleged that the Special Prosecutor demanded an amount of $40,000 from former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen, in exchange for dropping charges against him during an investigation.
“I want to show Ghanaians that I’m not afraid. When Kissi Agyebeng cleared Adu Boahen, he wrote to him demanding $40,000 cash after telling the public that he had done nothing wrong within his jurisdiction. What authority does he have to collect $40,000?” Kpebu asserted.
Speaking during an interview on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, December 6, 2025, the outspoken lawyer insisted that he has evidence to support his claims.
Kpebu further alleged that the Special Prosecutor interfered in an active corruption probe involving the current Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang. Dr Agyemang, who previously served as Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, was reportedly under investigation for alleged misconduct.
According to Kpebu, Agyebeng halted the inquiry because he feared the case would jeopardise Dr Agyemang’s political ambitions.
“A corruption report involving Kingsley Agyemang was filed at the OSP, and he was supposed to be arrested to give a statement. But Kissi Agyebeng blocked the arrest, saying Kingsley was his friend and the case would affect his chances in the Abuakwa South primaries,” he claimed.
He also alleged that the Special Prosecutor not only protected Dr Agyemang but also orchestrated a smear campaignagainst former Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea.
“He recruited people to tarnish the image of Samuel Atta Akyea to help secure the seat. One of those involved admitted he was promised two scholarship slots,” Kpebu stated.
These allegations add to the growing public scrutiny of the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which has recently faced criticism over its handling of high-profile investigations.
