A Presidential Aide, Rosemond Obeng, has urged the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to consider boycotting the 2028 general elections, suggesting it may be in the party’s best interest.
She further advised that the party undergo group counselling sessions to help them recover from the emotional and psychological impact of their 2024 electoral defeat, which resulted in their transition into opposition.
Speaking on Angel TV on November 13, 2025, Madam Obeng argued that the NPP has still not overcome the shock of losing power, stressing that their recovery will require a long-term, structured approach rather than quick fixes.
“I want to offer some humble advice to the NPP. The shock they suffered after losing the 2024 elections is still affecting them, so I recommend group counselling for their leadership.
It would even be better if they boycott the 2028 general elections because, during their counselling period, they will need more than four years to fix their minds. That is my humble advice,” she stated.
Madam Obeng, who is also a member of the government’s communications team, clarified that her comments are not meant to mock the NPP, but rather to support Ghana’s democratic stability.
She argued that the behaviour and posture of the NPP in opposition suggest that they are not yet mentally prepared to mount a serious comeback.
“This shouldn’t have been the concern of the NDC, but we are worried about their state because of the future of our democracy.
- Yes, they should work on their minds. Their conduct doesn’t reflect a political party ready to regain power,” she added.
