NPP Communicator Urges Ashanti Regional Minister to Invoke Curses Instead of Suing Over Galamsey Allegations

The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Kwabena Yandoh, has urged the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, to withdraw his defamation suit against individuals accusing him of engaging in illegal mining (galamsey) and instead adopt traditional methods to clear his name.

According to Yandoh, the public will only be convinced of the minister’s innocence if he invokes traditional curses to prove he has no involvement in galamsey.

During an interview on Oyerepa TV, later circulated widely on social media, Yandoh stated:
“Do you know Wendell Yeboah, an NDC member, has accused our regional minister, Frank Amoakohene, of participating in galamsey? His name is being mentioned just like Wontumi’s was. As an Ashanti, when such accusations arise, should you run to court? You must invoke curses to demonstrate your innocence so that everyone will understand you are not part of it. Court is unnecessary—curses should be what clears your name.”

He continued, insisting that without invoking these traditional rites, many people will still doubt Dr Amoakohene’s innocence.

Background to the Lawsuit

Dr Frank Amoakohene has initiated a defamation action against Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah of Democracy Hub for comments made during a live radio interview, which were later shared across social media platforms.

He has also filed suit against Aluta FM and its presenter, Agyaba Owusu (also known as Agyaba Kwaku), for broadcasting and amplifying the allegations.

The suit, dated December 4, 2025, and submitted by his lawyer, Ibrahim Halidu, relates to statements made on November 18, 2025, during the “Anopa Koko” morning show on Aluta 92.1 FM, a Madina-based station with a significant online following.

Court documents indicate that Wendell Yeboah, appearing as a guest on the show, “falsely and maliciously” alleged in both Twi and English that Dr Amoakohene was involved in illegal mining. He reportedly told listeners:
“As I speak with you right now, the Ashanti Regional Minister is into galamsey.”

Dr Amoakohene has strongly rejected the claims, describing them as unfounded, damaging, and intentionally aimed at tarnishing his public image.
