In Kumasi’s Nhyiaeso constituency, more than 100 metal containers and timber buildings have been destroyed by fire.

They have been calculating their losses ever since the disaster struck on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at around 8:00 p.m. Abraham Boadi, also known as Opooman, the local assembly member, was on the scene Thursday morning when OTEC News Bismark Appiah Kubi Papilo visited the scene.

He stated that if it weren’t for the Ghana National Fire Service’s quick response to a distress call, the fire would have spread to other areas because the structures were primarily made of wood.

Meanwhile, the area had been closed until the investigations were complete, and no casualties had been reported.

He called on authorities to help the affected victims, stating that the fire outbreak had caused more than 200 people to lose their belongings.

Opooman said that when the fire broke out, several of the squatters who were living there illegally had gone outside to watch the Real Madrid vs. PSG football match.

However, several were unable to remove their personal items, including some cash they had stored in their improvised buildings that caught fire.

Local operators and a tiny section of a fitting shop near Saint Agnes school at Atinga Junction were the primary victims.

Some of the impacted residents claimed that because of their recent breakup, one of the victims, who was named as Afia Sarfowaa’s ex-boyfriend, set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s room.
