Ghana’s Interior Minister, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has pledged that those responsible for the violence will face consequences amid the issue surrounding the recent rerun of the Ablekuma North poll, which involved former Awutu Senya East MP Hawa Koomson.

Muntaka underlined the government’s dedication to holding free and fair elections while speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 14, 2025.

He said the vice president had already authorized an investigation, even without the president present.

“She instructed, I mean, she called me. I told her, ‘Madam, I’ve already instructed the IGP.”

The Interior Minister clarified that he has inquired about the actions being taken with the Inspector General of Police (IGP).: “He said, ‘We have to review the cameras.'”

All participants in the rioting will be arrested until they left the nation, Minister Muntaka promised the populace.

“The assurance is that we are not going to allow this to go unpunished unless they flee the country.

They may relax knowing that the law will work itself out as long as they are present,” he continued.

The minister mentioned that all instances would be addressed legally and in compliance with due procedure when discussing relevant issues in Akwatia.

The Interior Minister also issued a caution to all political parties.

“Whether you are in the NDC, whether you are in the NPP, whether you are independent, let me remind you of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, what it says and what it entails,” he stressed.

Those who have denounced the violence in Ablekuma are likely to applaud the minister’s remarks, which send a strong message to all political parties.
