The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, has sparked nationwide discussion following his latest comments on President John Dramani Mahama, revealing that he was once a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in a viral video, the Dormaahene—who also serves as President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and a Justice of the Court of Appeal—dismissed claims that he is affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the Dormaahene, although he does not belong to or support the NDC, his comments on President Mahama’s governance reflect his belief that the country is currently being managed effectively.
“I will never support the NDC. I am not affiliated with the NDC and I will not support them till I die. However, I was once an NPP member before I became a judge. The way President Mahama is governing the country, anyone who says it is not in the right direction is a liar,” he stated.
The Dormaahene’s Mahama comments have drawn attention due to his previous criticism of the former government and his role as a senior traditional ruler and judicial officer.
He further cited economic indicators, particularly the cedi-to-dollar exchange rate, as evidence supporting his remarks about the president’s performance.
According to him, the exchange rate currently stands at GH¢11.49 to the US dollar, which he described as a sign of relative stability in the foreign exchange market since President Mahama assumed office.
The Dormaahene stressed that his Mahama comments are not an endorsement of the NDC, but an acknowledgment of what he described as effective leadership at the national level.
