Salifu Nurudeen, a student of computer science at the University for Development Studies’ Nyankpala campus, was found guilty of killing his classmate Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu and was given the death penalty.
A disagreement over a love relationship led to the crime, which happened in September of last year.
After breaking up with him, Nurudeen’s girlfriend— who was also a UDS student-began dating the victim.
Wumpini’s phone was missing when his body was found on September 25 with several stab wounds.
Later, the phone was located by the police cybercrime team and discovered concealed beneath Nurudeen’s bed.
Evidence showed that Nurudeen had sent two texts from Wumpini’s phone: one to Wumpini’s acquaintance and another feigning to stop the relationship with the girlfriend.
After being enticed to Jubilee, he was taken into custody.
