Despite Denies Backing Odo Broni in Daddy Lumba Family Dispute

Businessman and media mogul Dr Osei Kwame Despite has denied claims that he is supporting Odo Broni in the ongoing disagreement following the death of highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

Breaking his long silence in an audio message shared by Fadda Dickson on December 29, 2025, Dr Despite described the allegations as false, surprising, and without basis.

According to him, his involvement with Daddy Lumba’s family since the musician’s passing has been purely compassionate and respectful, with no hidden motives or partisan interest.

“Charles was a very close friend for many years. When he passed, I went to mourn with the family and donated GH¢100,000 to support them. I made the donation openly, not in private,” he said.

Dr Despite explained that after the donation, he had no further contact with the family until he later received a call from Akosua Serwaa, Daddy Lumba’s first wife, who was traveling from Germany ahead of the one-week observance.

“After that, I had no interaction with the family until Serwaa called from Germany to inform me she was coming for the funeral,” he noted.

He added that upon her arrival in Ghana, Serwaa later visited him with her children after first paying respects at Daddy Lumba’s residence.

“She came to greet me with her children after visiting Charles’ house. A few days before the one-week observation, I was preparing to travel to Holland for another funeral, which clashed with the date of Charles’ one-week ceremony,” he explained.

Despite acknowledged that although he was absent from the one-week observance, he continued to provide support to the family.

He strongly rejected assertions that he has taken sides in the reported family dispute, stressing that he has remained completely neutral.

“I gave money and a car to Papa Shee to be delivered to Serwaa. I have no problems with anyone. It is shocking to hear claims that I am backing someone. That would be a curse on me. I have never spoken to Serwaa’s lawyer or Odo Broni’s lawyer, and I don’t even know what is going on. I have not spoken against anyone,” he insisted.

Dr Osei Kwame Despite reiterated that he has not aligned himself with either of the two widows of the late Daddy Lumba, maintaining that his actions have been guided solely by goodwill and respect.
