An Amasaman High Court in Accra has reduced the 15-year prison sentence handed to controversial Ghanaian preacher, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa.
The ruling, delivered on February 5, 2026, slashed her jail term from 15 years to 12 months, with the court describing the original sentence as harsh and excessive.
The revised sentence takes retrospective effect from July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction. As a result, Nana Agradaa has approximately five months left to serve.
Background
Nana Agradaa is currently incarcerated at the Nsawam Female Prison after an Accra Circuit Court sentenced her to 15 years in prison in July 2025 for charlatanic advertising and defrauding by false pretences.
She was found guilty of deceiving members of her church by claiming she possessed supernatural powers to double money. According to prosecutors, she collected various sums of money from congregants after promoting the scheme on Today’s TV and several social media platforms.
The preacher allegedly invited the public to an all-night church service, promising miraculous financial returns through spiritual intervention.
More than 1,000 people reportedly attended the event and handed over significant amounts of cash. However, the promised money-doubling never occurred, leaving many victims financially distressed.
Following her conviction, Nana Agradaa, through her legal team, filed an appeal, challenging both the verdict and the severity of the sentence.
She first appeared before the Amasaman High Court on December 4, 2025, arguing that the trial was unfair, the evidence did not justify the conviction, and that the 15-year jail term was disproportionate to the offences.
The High Court ultimately agreed that the sentence was excessive, leading to the reduction.
