TalkSPORT Pundits Urge Tuchel to Pick Chalobah for England World Cup Squad

TalkSPORT pundits have thrown their weight behind Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, urging England head coach Thomas Tuchel to include him in the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.

The pundits praised Chalobah’s consistency and reliability this season, with suggestions that he should be considered ahead of Harry Maguire when defensive selections are made.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Inside Chelsea YouTube show, host Olivia Buzaglo described the 26-year-old as Chelsea’s most dependable centre-back in the current campaign.

“A player who I think has come on leaps and bounds is Trevoh Chalobah. He’s been an absolute rock at the back,” she said.
“He has been Chelsea’s most consistent centre-back. It’s now, without Levi Colwill, who plays next to Trevoh.”

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy shared similar views, branding Chalobah as “outstanding” and one of the first names on the team sheet.

“Trevoh’s been outstanding. You know what you’re going to get. You are so secure in what Trevoh’s going to give us,” Cundy said.
“Trevoh’s been as consistent as anyone in this team this season. No doubt about that.”

Key Figure in Chelsea’s Defence

Chalobah has started almost every Premier League match in the 2025/26 season, offering stability at the back during a period marked by injuries to Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Benoît Badiashile.

His performances have stood out under Enzo Maresca earlier in the campaign and continued under current head coach Liam Rosenior, strengthening his case for international recognition.

England Selection Debate Ahead of 2026 World Cup

With England preparing for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Tuchel faces difficult decisions in defence.

Chalobah received a late call-up to Tuchel’s November squad as a replacement but did not feature, meaning he still has just one England cap, earned during his debut against Senegal in June 2025.

Cundy acknowledged the competition for places, pointing to Maguire’s experience and recent improvement, but stressed the importance of form.

“It’s going to be touch and go… Everyone fit? I’m going [Ezri] Konsa and [Marc] Guehi. That’s probably our best two centre-back partnership for England,” he said.

However, he maintained that Chalobah’s club performances should not be overlooked.

“He has been as consistent as anyone. In terms of English centre-halves, the same rules apply.
Tuchel knows him, and there’s a very strong chance that he’ll be in there. I think we’ve got to look at the next squad.”
