Oti Police Intercept Trailer with Hidden Compartments, Seize 4,000 Suspected Narcotics Parcels

The Oti Regional Police Command has intercepted a long trailer suspected to be involved in drug trafficking after acting on intelligence about a smuggling operation in the region.

The operation was led by the Oti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Alex Acquah, who confirmed that the vehicle was intercepted during a targeted intelligence-led operation.

Trailer Modified with Secret Compartments

The truck, a DAF long trailer with registration number GW 1943-09 and bearing the inscription “Tom Winter”, initially appeared empty. However, a detailed search revealed that the vehicle had been specially modified with six concealed metal compartments beneath its axle.

Police say the hidden compartments were designed to evade routine inspections at security checkpoints.

4,000 Parcels of Suspected Narcotics Found

During the search, conducted in the presence of the suspect, Amidu Jubril, aged 40, officers uncovered 4,000 parcels of compressed dried leaves, wrapped in yellow masking tape and suspected to be narcotic substances.

The suspected drugs were carefully packed and concealed inside the secret compartments.

Suspect Detained, Truck Impounded

The police have impounded the trailer and retained all seized items as exhibits to aid ongoing investigations. The suspect has been detained and is cooperating with investigators, according to the police.

Police Vow to Intensify Anti-Drug Operations

DCOP Alex Acquah assured residents of the Oti Region that the police would leave no stone unturned in the fight against drug trafficking.

He stressed that security personnel would remain highly vigilant at all police barriers and checkpoints across the region to clamp down on smuggling activities.

He added that the Oti Regional Command remains fully committed to combating drug-related crimes and protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.

Intelligence-Led Policing Paying Off

The operation underscores the growing use of intelligence-driven policing to uncover sophisticated smuggling techniques, including the modification of vehicles with hidden compartments to transport large quantities of illegal drugs.
