The Office of the Special Prosecutor has reportedly arrested Ato Boateng, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Finance and Administration at Ghana Cocoa Board, over allegations of conflict of interest linked to his former company.
According to a report by TV3 Ghana, Boateng was arrested on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, by the Office of the Special Prosecutor as part of investigations into the operations of Atlas Commodities Limited.
He was, however, granted bail later the same day.
In a post shared on X, TV3 stated that the deputy COCOBOD boss had been released after meeting his bail conditions while investigations continue.
Boateng denies wrongdoing
Boateng has strongly rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless. The accusations were raised by members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party, including Vincent Ekow Assafuah, who alleged that he was using his position at COCOBOD to influence decisions in favour of Atlas Commodities.
In a statement sighted by GhanaWeb, Boateng insisted that he had severed all official ties with the company before assuming public office.
According to the statement, he founded Atlas Commodities in 2018 and managed it until he was appointed Deputy CEO of COCOBOD. However, he resigned as a director of the company in January 2025, weeks before taking office on February 5, 2025.
The statement also indicated that he transferred his shareholding in the company to a trust managed by Edinam Yao Cofie.
Asset declaration made
Boateng further stated that he officially declared his interest in the company and the trust as part of the mandatory asset and liabilities declaration required of public officials.
He welcomed calls for investigations by both the Special Prosecutor and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, insisting that the allegations were “frivolous”.
Documents sighted by GhanaWeb reportedly include his resignation letter addressed to the board chairman of Atlas Commodities Limited as proof of his formal exit from the company before his appointment.
Investigations into the matter are expected to continue as authorities determine whether any conflict of interest occurred.
