A woman believed to be in her 50s has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 2-year-old girl and forcing her into a margarine bucket with a tight-fitting lid at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
Reports fetched has it that, the suspect was seen sitting at the back of the victim’s house with an intention of spying which aimed to steal the innocent 2-year-old child.
An eyewitness who spoke to myrepubliconline.com said, they saw the suspected kidnapper sitting on a margarine rubber bucket quietly without answering or talking to anyone.
The eyewitnesses added that an attempt made to ask her questions proved futile.
“We tried asking her questions but she insisted on not talking to us; we intentionally ignored the suspect but were monitoring her movement.”
According to them, in a few minutes, they saw the woman grabbing this 2-year-old girl and forcing her into the margarine bucket she was sitting on.
They later saw her carrying the bucket on her head, hence, informed the neighbours around in an attempt to run away, the suspected kidnapper fell in a ditch leading to her arrest at the police station.
Meanwhile, the mother of the victim, Janet Ampah also said, she was at the house feeding her 2-month-old baby when she heard her neighbours shouting for help. She went to the scene and found out that her child has been kidnapped by the suspect.
“My daughter could have been stolen if not for the intervention of my neighbours.”
It’s believed to have been suspected that the 50-year-old woman was hired by some person(s) to steal the 2-year-old girl for spiritual reasons.
In an interview, the father of the child, Kofi Essel also called on the Police to do the needful investigations into the matter.
This has not been the first time such an incident has happened in Mankessim, there are instances people got missing which was suspected they were kidnapped by some unknown assailants, hence appealing to the Police in Mankessim to deal with the culprit following thorough investigations into the matter.
The suspect is assisting the Mankessim Divisional Police Command in an investigation.
