In a heartfelt appeal, popular Ghanaian actress and TV show host Nana Ama McBrown has asked the United States Embassy in Ghana to reconsider and lift the travel ban imposed on her over two decades ago.

The plea comes after the thespian disclosed in March 2023 that she was deported from the U.S. in 2001, a revelation she had never shared publicly before.

During an interview with Captain Smart following her welcome ceremony to Media General, McBrown opened up about the difficult experience. She recounted how her uncle, who had recently returned from the U.S, promised to take her abroad after seeing her potential as an athlete. Unfortunately, her dreams were shattered when she was deported shortly after arriving in the United States in January 2001.

Captain, January is a month I don’t like at all because things really don’t go as expected for me. I’ve never said this anywhere before but today I’ll say it to inspire somebody. My uncle returned from the US and met me as a footballer who had returned from playing at Kwadaso (a suburb of Kumasi).

I went to play table tennis after that so when my uncle saw me, he promised to take me abroad. Truthfully I was in America in January but to put it short, I was deported,” she revealed.

However, speaking in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Thursday, August 22, 2024, the screen goddess made a direct appeal to the American Embassy in Ghana, asking them to reconsider their decision. She emphasized that she has maintained a good record since the incident and is not a bad person.

And I’m begging them. Please, American Embassy, consider me again. When you look at my record, I’m not a bad person. I’ve never been a bad person. Because I really knew what I’ve done, and I wanted to correct it,” she pleaded.

The actress , who also doubles as an entrepreneur took the opportunity to caution Ghanaians about the dangers of forging documents to secure visas. She urged people to be genuine, warning that such actions could have long-term consequences, including hindering future opportunities.
