The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has humorously accepted what he described as an “honour” conferred on him as the Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party by a representative of the King of Mamprusi.
At an event on Sunday, August 24, 2025, the representative of the king mistakenly introduced him as Chairman of the NPP, drawing laughter from the gathering.
Although the Mamprusi king’s representative corrected the error, Asiedu Nketiah, during his address, replied;
“Let me gladly accept the honour conferred on me as the Acting National Chairman of NPP by His Majesty, the representative of the King of Mamprusi. He is our grandfather, so l cannot reject the title that is conferred on me.”
Explaining further, he noted that the recognition was symbolic since, according to him, the actual NPP Chairman, Stephen Ntim, comes from the same community as he also does.
“It is fitting and proper because the NPP National Chairman comes from my place. We are brothers.
Unfortunately, after their friendly defeat, he’s gone into hiding,” he remarked.
Asiedu Nketiah added that until his colleague resurfaces, he is prepared to take up the responsibility in good faith.
“If there is somebody who should take care of his (sic) and his absence, I have accepted that responsibility.
And so, my brothers, if you need any advice as to how to get out of your problems, you can come to your brother. I will be acting until my brother comes back to acting for the days or you find a fitting replacement,” he said to more laughter from the gathering.
