NDC Chairman Speaks on Ties with Dr. Bawumia.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, has described the tight ties his party has with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was also the 2024 NPP presidential candidate.

Even though Dr. Bawumia is now a prominent member of the opposition NPP, Asiedu Nketiah stated in a recent interview that he can never perceive him as an adversary.

Family and Historical Connections
He said that the former vice president’s late mother had been one of his women’s organisers and that some of her offspring had important roles in the NDC and even in party-formed governments.

He even claimed that during the administration of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, Dr. Bawumia’s father served as head of the Council of State.

Tribute to Bawumia’s Mother
“My women’s organiser was his mother. I therefore dispatched a delegation to my women’s organizer’s funeral on the day his mother died away. During Mahama’s first administration, his older brother, Chief Bawumia, served as our ambassador to Burkina Faso.

He (Bawumia’s older brother) is currently a member of the Council of Elders of the NDC.

Brothers’ Role in the NDC
“Two of his brothers have fought for positions in the NDC before me; one came for a DCE position, the other for MP. Before his dad passed, he was the president of the Council of State during the presidency of President Rawlings,” he said.

He added, “So, if I met Bawumia at an event and I treated him as an enemy, would God not punish me?

He (Bawumia) is one of us.”
