In a dramatic turn of events, the technical team of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, narrowly escaped a serious accident on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road on Sunday morning on their way back from the Champion of Champions clash between Nsoatreman and Samartex at the TnA Park.
The team, comprising Head Coach Otto Addo, Assistant Coach John Paintsil, and Goalkeepers Trainer Fatawu Dauda, was traveling in a Land Cruiser with the vehicle registration number GR 6521-21. The back wheels of the vehicle unexpectedly detached, creating a potentially catastrophic situation.
Eyewitnesses report that the accident was nearly unavoidable when a pickup truck veered into the Land Cruiser’s lane, seemingly heading straight for a head-on collision. However, the quick reflexes and skillful driving of the Land Cruiser’s driver averted the disaster, steering the vehicle away from the oncoming truck.
Remarkably, none of the passengers, including the three coaches and the driver, sustained any serious injuries. However, as a precaution, they have all taken to a hospital in Takoradi for further medical checks before continuing their journey to Accra.
This incident comes just days before the Black Stars are scheduled to begin their training camp in Accra on Monday, ahead of their crucial 2025 AFCON qualifier against Angola in Kumasi. The football community is relieved that the coaches are unharmed and can proceed with preparations for the upcoming match.
The GFA has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, but the focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of the coaching staff as they gear up for the important fixture ahead.
