Ghanaian forward Iñaki Williams has taken on a new leadership role at Spanish La Liga and Copa del Rey holders Athletic Club for the 2024/25 season.

The gifted attacker has been named the team’s vice-captain, highlighting his importance both on and off the field for the Basque club going into the long season as the team will return to European football for the first time since 2017.

During the first home game of the season on Thursday evening against Getafe, Williams had the honor of wearing the captain’s armband.

This could be a morale boost and a significant one for the player, who has spent his entire professional career with the Basque club.

His dedication to Athletic Club is clear, and his new role is a reflection of that commitment after turning down offers from bigger clubs seasons ago just to stay loyal to Athletic Club.

The Ghanaian international has been a key player for the team, especially during their successful Copa del Rey campaign last season. He provided stellar performances and that was very crucial in helping Athletic Club lift the trophy, a feat that cemented his status as one of the club’s most important players.

His journey with the club remains one of dedication and success, and this latest chapter only adds to his legacy as he will go the entire season as the vice captain for the club.
