What comes to mind when you think of luxury watches?

For a lot of people, luxury goods are synonymous with certain brands and there’s sometimes a belief that high quality products should come from abroad.

But not for Ghanaian entrepreneur Anthony Dzamefe who quit his job at a hotel to create Caveman Watches – Ghana’s first watch manufacturing company.

The journey from buying his first watch to becoming a CEO wasn’t easy and came with significant challenges.

“A lot of people were mocking me. People would send pictures to my mum saying ‘is there something wrong with your son? We’ve seen him in traffic hawking watches’”.

But little did Anthony know, he’d actually carved out a niche and gradually became known as “the go-to-guy for watches” as “Ghana didn’t even have a watch industry” to start with.

Although Anthony says many customers rejected his watches when he was first starting out after they found out they were made in Ghana, he today now counts celebrities like Beyoncé and Angelique Kidjo amongst his clientele.

“I want to make watches that pass through the generations.”
