Award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, professionally known as Amerado has opened up about the challenges he faced in pursuing tertiary education right after completing Senior High School (SHS).

In a heartfelt revelation during an interview with Emelia Brobbey on the Okukuseku talk show on Adom TV, the ‘Kweku Ananse’ singer shared that his mother’s financial instability prevented him from furthering his education at the time.

Amerado, whose father passed away when he was just 13 years old, was left under the care of his mother along with his siblings.

He disclosed that after completing SHS, he secured admissions at both the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Akrokerri College of Education. However, due to the financial constraints his mother faced, he had to forgo both opportunities though he was passionate about education.

Determined to succeed, Amerado turned to music, and as his career progressed, he managed to save enough money. With the support and encouragement of his team, he decided to return to education.

Two years ago, Amerado enrolled at the University of Ghana where he is currently pursuing his studies.

“I had to let go of my admissions to KNUST and Akrokerri College of Education due to my mum’s financial difficulties. Music became my path to financial stability, and now, with my career’s success, I’m able to study at the University of Ghana,” he said.
