Accra, July 30, 2025 — Carlos Calony, a journalist with JoyNews, has been arrested by National Security agents while covering the demolition of a warehouse allegedly owned by prominent businessman Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan.

The incident occurred along Spintex Road in Accra on Wednesday, July 30. According to eyewitness reports, national security personnel carried out the demolition of the warehouse, which was situated adjacent to Action Chapel, on the evening of Monday, July 28 at around 7:00 p.m.

Multiple excavators were used in the operation, which witnesses described as sudden and forceful. Although the facility was still under construction and unoccupied, on-site workers reportedly watched the destruction unfold in real-time.

Mr. Calony was on the scene to document the demolition exercise and capture the rising tensions between military personnel and civilians who had gathered at the location. His arrest has raised significant concerns about the safety and freedom of journalists in Ghana, especially when reporting on issues involving state authorities.

At this time, the exact reasons behind the demolition and the journalist’s arrest remain unclear. The development has reignited public debate about press freedom and the growing risks faced by media professionals in the country.
