Seasoned Ghanaian gospel musician Esther Smith has shared a touching story about her beginnings, recounting how her mother almost chose to terminate her pregnancy due to the overwhelming pressures of being a student at the time.
According to Esther Smith, her mother’s plan was thwarted when her mother’s aunt, who encountered her en route to the clinic, intervened. Her grand-aunt followed her mother until she disclosed her intentions, leading to Esther’s father being informed and subsequently stopping the abortion.
The crooner further revealed that her mother confessed to taking a lot of drugs to induce the abortion, but none were effective.
The singer behind the hit song “Nnipa” detailed these circumstances during an interview with Accra FM’s Nana Romeo. She made this revelation while opening about her singing ministry, emphasizing that she was born with it.
“My mother was a student when she was pregnant with me. She was going to abort me at Komfo Anokye because she was scared of her father as she was the only child. However, her plan was interrupted when her aunt, who encountered her on the way to the clinic, followed her and confronted her about her intentions.
This intervention led to my father learning of the situation and stopping the abortion. My father did not like the idea of giving birth either, but when the woman reported to him, he quickly intervened,” she narrated.
The gospel music diva also shared that a pastor had prophesied to her mum that she would become a prominent figure in Ghana.
“My mother said she met a pastor who told her that the baby she is carrying would grow to become useful to Ghana. So, when God started lifting me, she told me about the story,” she added.
