The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially endorsed Solomon Kwame Asumadu, the Chief Executive Officer of Owuo Mining Company, as its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Akwatia Constituency.
The announcement followed extensive stakeholder engagements and internal consultations, culminating in a consensus decision that ruled out the need for party primaries.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Monday, July 28, Eastern Regional NPP Chairman, Jeff Konadu Addo, outlined the selection process that led to Asumadu’s endorsement.
“We commissioned research. People went into the constituency and gathered all the names of individuals who had expressed interest. After assessing the report on who the most suitable candidate could be, the party found that Kwame Asumadu Solomon had emerged as the clear choice,” he stated.
Konadu added that the findings were presented to the party’s National Council, which subsequently approved the recommendation.
“Kwame Asumadu has been officially announced as the NPP’s candidate for the Akwatia by-election today,” he affirmed.
Asumadu’s endorsement marks a crucial step in the NPP’s preparations to retain the Akwatia parliamentary seat, which became vacant following the recent death of the sitting MP.
