The Accra High Court rejected a request for an injunction to stop the Electoral Commission from holding a second parliamentary election at 19 voting stations in the constituency.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) attempted to stop the rerun scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, by filing the injunction application on July 6, 2025, through Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie.

The court’s judge, Justice Ali Baba Abature, ruled on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, that the ex parte application was “unmeritorious.”

Despite assertions from Owusu’s legal team, led by Director of Legal Affairs Garry Nimako Marfo, that their client would face dire repercussions from the recurrence, the court denied the appeal.

In the past, the party has blasted the Electoral Commission’s approach to the matter, labeling its decision and guidance “unjust.”

Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie filed a lawsuit with the Accra High Court to stop the Electoral Commission from staging a parliamentary election repetition in any of the 281 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.

She accused the Electoral Commission of acting “arbitrarily, capriciously, and in excess of its jurisdiction,” and among other remedies, she asked for a directive requiring the Commission to adhere to the court’s January decision, an order of prohibition to prevent the rerun, and an order of certiorari to overturn the Commission’s decision.

By rejecting the EC’s rerun, the party has made it clear that they will not take part in it.
