Ghanaian musician Sam Sarfo Junior, popularly called Showboy, has been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service, days after a video allegedly showing him resisting arrest spread widely on social media.
In a fresh video now circulating online, the artiste is seen handcuffed and surrounded by police officers, engaging them in conversation. During the interaction, Showboy appears agitated and repeatedly voices his displeasure, saying, “This is so wrong.”
A voice heard off-camera, believed to be from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, stated that officers had received instructions to arrest and detain the musician. A female officer who identified herself as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) was also heard speaking with him.
In the footage, Showboy asks for water and requests to speak with his doctor, claiming that he is a psychiatric patientwho requires access to his psychiatrist. The officers are heard responding calmly as they attempt to de-escalate the situation and manage the arrest professionally.
The arrest follows an earlier confrontation at Showboy’s residence a few days earlier. In that incident, individuals believed to be CID officers attempted to arrest him while he was live on TikTok, an encounter that was recorded and quickly went viral.
In the earlier video, Showboy appeared visibly upset and challenged the officers, insisting they had not presented the proper arrest documents. He refused to cooperate, telling both the officers and his online audience that he could not be arrested without official authorization.
As of now, the Ghana Police Service has not issued an official statement explaining the reasons behind Showboy’s arrest or the circumstances surrounding his detention.
