Ghanaian music promoter Sleeky supports calls for a state funeral for the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, urging the Ministry of Tourism to honor his legacy and criticizing those opposing the idea.
Popular Ghanaian music promoter Sadick Assah, better known by his stage as Sleeky, has firmly supported requests for Daddy Lumba, the late highlife star, to be given a state funeral and maintained that the matter shouldn’t even be up for debate.
These appeals have been made by numerous prominent and well-respected voices in the creative arts and entertainment sectors through interviews and social media channels.
In a message uploaded on his X (previously Twitter) account, Sleeky added his voice to this appeal, saying that the country should honor Daddy Lumba with a state-assisted funeral because of the enormous influence he has had on Ghana’s music industry both domestically and abroad.
He also urged the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture to spearhead the effort for the state burial, highlighting the ministry’s duty to honor cultural icons who have raised Ghana’s stature internationally.
People who have been arguing that any kind of state-funded funeral for the late music legend is needless and a waste of money have been reprimanded by the award-winning promoter.
After a brief illness, Daddy Lumba, whose real name was Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away in the Bank Hospital in Accra on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
When the country learned of his passing, fans, singers, politicians, and cultural stakeholders began to pay their respects.
In a statement released by their legal counsel, his family announced his passing and asked for privacy while funeral preparations are completed.
