After being found guilty of car theft, Kenyan socialite Sheila Wairimu, also known as Shay Diva Africa, was given a four-year prison sentence with the option of a Ksh200,000 fine.
The 30-year-old socialite was charged with using PJ Dodhia Kumar’s TIMs/NTSA account to gain access and giving herself ownership of the car without following the proper succession procedures.
After learning that Shay Diva had stolen the car, Kumar’s family reported it to the police after he passed away in April 2021 at the age of 61. The tycoon only gave the socialite the Landcruiser on a “use and return basis” because they were dating, the family remarked.
In her defense, the socialite testified before the court that the Landcruiser was given to her without her consent and that she discovered this when she logged into her NTSA account.
Shay Diva was accused of blackmailing the late tycoon by one of the five witnesses who testified against her in court.
The witness, Chirag Bhatt, the manager of a hardware store owned by the deceased businessman, claimed that the socialite threatened to reveal their extramarital affair to his wife, who resides in the UK. “Shay Diva remained with the car until Kumar was killed by blackmail,” he continued.
The Toyota Landcruiser was illegally transferred into Diva’s ownership; she was charged with three counts of interfering with family estate, forgery, and theft. On November 30, 2022, a guilty verdict was reached, and on December 5, 2022, she received her sentence.
She was dating the late Dodhia Kumar, and Kitale Chief Magistrate Julius N’garng’ar also ordered the Toyota Landcruiser 200 series to be returned to the family of Dodhia Kumar’s passing.
