Mr. Ishaq Ibrahim, a lecturer at Ghana’s University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has expressed concern about what he described as a startling increase in students’ indecent attire in both in-person and online classes.

Speaking on Thursday, July 3, 2025, on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Mr. Ibrahim criticized the deteriorating dress codes and demanded immediate changes to maintain academic professionalism.

“I had the opportunity of teaching law students Legal Environment in Business, and the way some of them dress is really bad,” he lamented.

“You just have to teach them; you just have to be there to experience it.”

He recalled a particularly upsetting incident from his second year of teaching, in which he had to tell some female students to leave the lecture hall because of their skimpy clothing.

“I am standing at the podium teaching, and the students are sitting over there—the skirt is so short that you could see their panties,” he said.

Mr. Ibrahim further emphasized the difficulties that arose when lectures were conducted virtually during the COVID-19 lockdown. According to him, several students showed up for virtual lessons wearing unsuitable clothing, occasionally showing up in their pajamas, relaxing in bed, or even bringing their electronics into the restroom.

“I have had the experience of students putting on earphones and going to shower… The good thing about Zoom is that it highlights and shows you the particular student.”

He emphasized that UPSA must enforce stricter standards of behavior and appearance among its student body because it is a professional university.

“Coming to class and showing off your cleavage or breasts among your fellow students is inappropriate.”
