Assistant coach (interim head coach) of Betpawa Premier side Kotoku Royals, John Eduafo Jnr has said that his post match comments following their defeat to Hearts of Oak have been misconstrued.
His comments come after a controversial late minute goal by Hearts of Oak’s Caleb Amankwah in a week 22 league game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The goal which was later revealed by various TV camera angles as offside proved to be the match winner.
Commenting on the goal in a post match interview, Eduafo had said he did not have the opportunity of a second look at the process leading to the goal, and so he did not have any reason to to doubt it.
“After the game, I did not have the chance to watch for the second time before going for the post match interview, so my initial thoughts was that since the referee did not see anything wrong with it, then it was a good goal. But after the post match interview, I had the opportunity to watch playbacks from different angles and I realised that Caleb was glaringly offside and so the goal should have been disallowed,”he said.
Eduafo noted that he was surprised that his comments was later taken out of context to mean that he saw nothing wrong with the goal as reported wildly.
“I must say that I was disappointed for how my comments have been misunderstood and has hurt my spirit and motivation. This has also damaged my relationship with the club’s supporters but I want to apologise to them and set the record straight that my comment was misconstrued. I will never do anything to let the club and its stakeholders down,” he added.
He adviced that attention should rather be given to the good works going on at the club and not to disrupt the progress made by far.
Meanwhile, the CAF License A certificate holder said he was impressed with the performance of his team and he hoped to build on that. He said he was confident of the Royals’ survival in the elite football division of Ghana.
