Eight musicians, including two gospel performers, Piesie Esther, and Joe Mettle, will compete for the coveted “Artiste of the Year” award at the 24th annual Ghana Music Awards, which will take place on Saturday, May 6.

In this hotly contested category, the candidates include Black Sherif, Piesie Esther, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, KiDi, Joe Mettle, Camidoh, and King Promise.

The young rapper Black Sherif, who, according to Ras Kuuku, is the most deserved of the eight, has the backing of the reggae and dancehall artists, as publicly stated in a Facebook post.

He poked fun at the gospel fraternity throughout his campaign for “artiste of the year.” He noted:

“Truth is one… My younger brother deserves the Artist of the Year… It’s not a churchical business.”
