“I refused to join Manchester City due to my loyalty to Black Stars” – Asamaoh Gyan

Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of Ghana, claims that he was always more loyal to the national team since he was a nationalist.

With 51 goals, the 37-year-old became his nation’s all-time leading scorer while spending ten and a half years playing for the Black Stars. With 109 appearances in various competitions and friendlies, he is also Ghana’s second-most-capped player.

Gyan spoke candidly about his passion for his nation and the reason he decided to play for Ghana rather than Manchester City in 2008.

He claimed that when he informed them he wanted to represent Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations, the Premier League team decided against signing him that year and instead chose to sign Emmanuel Adebayor (AFCON).

“I constantly claim to be a staunch patriot.” Gyan stated on YouTube that, at the time, Sheik Mansour had just purchased Man City and they wanted to sign me.

“However, my priority was the national team. The national team was my top priority. That is why I get hurt sometimes.

“People were confused. But I’m confident that following this interview they’ll comprehend why things transpired in the manner they did, he stated.
