The president of Ghana, Nana Adoo Danquah Akuffo Addo has said he supports the Attorney General to prosecute Galamsey kingpin, Aisha Huang.
Aisha Huang was re-arrested by the Ghana police a few weeks ago after the police got a hint about her hideout at her old Galamsey site in the Ashante region.
It was reported that Aisha Huang was said to have been deported from the country in December 2018 and was presented before the court on Monday, September 5, 2022. She was re-arrested and is now in police custody.
Speaking at a conference of the Ghana Bar Association in Ho, as part of a two-day tour of the Volta region, President Akufo-Addo said that Aisha Huang will be prosecuted for breaking the mining laws in Ghana. He further indicated his support for the prosecution of the suspect by the Attorney General.
“…to show you of my full support of the Attorney General in his determination to prosecute Aisha Huang and her collaborators who apparently insist on flouting our laws on galamsey and illegal mining.”
“I expect if they are found guilty, that the court will apply the full rigor of the new amended Act 995 which has increased substantially the punishment for breaches of the law,” President Akufo-Addo stressed.
