I Believe My Husband Is Alive – Atsu’s Wife Speaks On Player’s Missing

The wife of Ghanaian player Christian Atsu, Marie-Claire Rupio, believes her husband is still alive as the search for him continues following the Turkey Earthquake.

In an interview on BBC, Atsu’s wife said that, her husband is yet to be found because rescuers lack the necessary equipment to aid in their search.

According to her, time is running out, and failure by authorities to send in more resources may result in more casualties.

She also urged the governments of Turkey and the United Kingdom to send more personnel and equipment to help in the rescue of her husband and other people trapped in the rubble of buildings after an earthquake in Turkey.

“I will appeal for the Hatayaspor club and the Turkish authorities and the British government to send the equipment to get the people out who are still trapped in the rubble. Especially for my husband and the father of my children as well because they need the equipment to get them out. They can’t get that deep without the equipment and time is running out,” she stated.

She went further and say she was still hopeful that the footballer was alive, adding that she is keeping him in prayers.

“His agent is in Turkey and he is trying to get to the place where it happened. They know where the building is and they are trying to rescue everybody,” Marie-Claire said.

“They know that there are people still under the rubble but the problem is that they don’t have the equipment necessary to get him out. We don’t know where he is. I still pray and believe he is alive.” — she said

On Monday, February 6, 2023, Christian Atsu and some members of his club Hatayaspor were trapped in the earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria.

Despite the fact that some earthquake victims have been found and rescued, Atsu is still to be found, contrary to earlier reports that the former Newcastle player had been rescued and taken to hospital.

As of Monday February 13, 2023, CNN reports that 34,000 people have died in the wreckage in both Turkey and Syria.

Meanwhile, thermal cameras have confirmed that many people are still alive despite being trapped under the collapsed building where Atsu was staying before the devastating earthquake struck.

According to a report by Turkish outfit Ajanspor, the building also houses handball player Cemal Kütahya and his family, who are yet to be found.

“There are many living people, confirmed by thermal cameras. The building, where national handball player Cemal Kütahya and his family, Hatayspor manager Taner Savut and football player Christian Atsu are located, is very crowded with a capacity of 1000 people,” the tabloid reports.

Marie-Claire Rupio and Christian Atsu married in 2012 and have three children together.
