Rap icon Ruth Nyame Adom, better known by her stage name Eno Barony, was 15 when she saw her first TV performance. She has revealed her father’s reaction to this event.
Eno Barony described her father’s reaction when he saw her rap for the first time in an exclusive interview that aired on The Chat, an entertainment and lifestyle programme hosted by Ekow Koomson on Citi TV. She described her experience in response to a question concerning her father, a reverend minister:
One Saturday, I appeared on TV. I believe I went for a competition, and my side of the competition was used for the advertisement while my dad slept in the living room. My dad was sound asleep, and all of my family was present. I was fifteen when my dad woke up and said, “Whose voice is that?” However, once completed, they wrote about it and displayed it every Saturday at 5:00 p.m.,” she stated.
He sat and watched me perform at five o’clock in the evening on a Saturday morning. The “Heavy Load” hitmaker went on. I was then chastised for being the daughter of a minister and went on to perform rap music while sporting a short skirt.”
The “Rap Goddess” emphasised further that “my dad will still tell you Jesus is the only celebrity I know,” despite the fact that her father is happy for her success.
Famous for her hit songs “God Is a Woman,” “Wats Ma Name,” and “Tonga,” which is a 2014 remix of Joey B’s song “Tonga” featuring Sarkodie, Eno Barony is well-known.
She was the first female artist from Ghana to win the 3Music Awards’ Rapper of the Year title in 2021.
